Ford: "Goodbye Mercury. Hello Lincoln!"

It's official, Mercury is meeting it's long awaited demise. The company which was started in the '30's by Edsel Ford, son of Gerald Ford, has finally been pulled from Ford Co's production lineup. Steadily declining sales and Ford's plan to shift more of it's production resources towards it's luxury line, Lincoln, are contributing factors to Mercury's closure. Currently Mercury comprises only .8% of the U.S. auto market. Ford will offer special incentives during summer '10 in an attempt to clear out remaining inventory. Dealers will continue to honor vehicle warranties after Mercury's closure so if you're in the market for a new car and don't mind being jeered for driving the "grandpa's primo choice of automobile", head down to your local Mercury dealer... if you can find one.
